Executive produced by Eli Roth, Hemlock Grove was one of Netflix’s first original series. It was also one of the first to end its run. Buoyed by interest in a horror series and Netflix’s bingewatching model, the first season of Hemlock Grove was popular worldwide, but poor reviews and the slow pacing led to dwindling interest. Hemlock Grove follows the investigation of two brutally murdered teenage girls into the secrets of a town in Pennsylvania (chief among them, the town’s werewolf population). There’s plenty of gore in the series to keep horror hounds satiated, and there is the occasional spark of life. Unfortunately, the interesting moments are few and far between, and what’s left in between is an inscrutable mystery, disjointed storylines, and far too many loose ends. It’s a ridiculous mess, but not ridiculous enough to be consistently entertaining. In this Freeform drama. Callie and her brother Jude are welcomed into the home of the Foster family after spending much of their lives in foster homes. The rest of the family includes their new parents — Stef and Lena — and a mix of diverse children, both biological and adopted, in this blended-family series geared toward teens. The Fosters earned critical acclaim and two GLAAD Media Awards for its portrayal of LGBT topics and themes.

The show is overflowing with smart comedic writing, crisp visuals and more than its fair share of surprises. Dead to Me season 2 is now available.Atypical is a family sitcom that would feel right at home among ABC’s family sitcoms (Speechless, Black-ish, Fresh off the Boat, etc.). It’s also a charming coming-of-age show about Sam Gardner (Keir Gilchrist), an 18-year-old from Connecticut with high-functioning autism. He’s arrived at an age when he’s decided that he’d like to date and have sex, and the first season covers his awkward encounters with women, his inappropriate crush on his therapist, and his relationship with the teenage girl he eventually asks to prom. It also deals with the challenges of his parents; his father (Michael Rapaport) is trying to figure out how to connect with his son while his mother (Jennifer Jason Leigh) aims to find her own identity apart from being the mother of an autistic child. It’s the older sister (Brigette Lundy-Paine) who is the real stand-out of Atypical, however, as she aims to both support her brother while also creating a life of her own separate from her brother. It’s not a groundbreaking series, but it’s funny, heartwarming, and very, very sweet. This is only semi-original Netflix series. While the first three seasons were aired back in 2003 to 2005, it was picked up by Netflix for fourth and fifth season. Read More: Best Movies on Netflix India. 7. Best Netflix Series of All Time - IMD

Following the life of washed up actor Bojack as he struggles with alcoholism, toxic relationships, and family issues, the series is just as heartwarming as it can be heartbreaking. For those who are worried it may be too dark for them, fear not - there's loads of slapstick humor, word play, and stunning animation to keep everything balanced. For those of you who have never seen the show, it follows the adventures of Aang, a tween destined to become the “Avatar” — a magical martial artist who can manipulate all four classical elements. The only problem is that Aang has been frozen in a chunk of ice for 100 years, and the Fire Nation has declared war on the rest of the world in his absence. Along with his new friends Sokka and Katara, Aang embarks on an epic adventure.A British import licensed in America exclusively by Netflix, Peaky Blinders is roughly the UK equivalent of HBO’s Boardwalk Empire, taking place in the same time period and covering similar terrain. It’s got British gangsters, and while bootlegging and gambling are involved, so is the IRA, Peaky has one thing that Boardwalk does not, however, and that’s the piercing, intense Cillian Murphy, who plays something akin to Prohibition-era Boyd Crowder. The show also features Tom Hardy as a phenomenal recurring character in seasons two and three (along with Noah Taylor). It’s addictive, violent, and intense as hell. With its restrained dialogue, monster violence and discombobulated timeline, the series sometimes feels more like a mashup of video game cutscenes than a cohesive dramatic narrative – but it works. The Witcher’s real success is in seeming to recognise that viewers don’t necessarily want their ridiculous fantasy shows to be too high-brow or pretentious, and are mainly here to see some cool magic effects and sexy Geralt in the bath (surprising exactly no one, there is plenty of gratuitous female nudity too).

Michael C. Hall stars as a well-to-do British family man whose daughter goes missing in this thriller. There are a bunch of moving storylines in this one as Hall’s character jumps from flashbacks to the present, wrestling with guilt over his wife’s death and frantically searching for his missing teen who may have uncovered a decades-long secret kept by those closest to him right before she vanished. Figuring out the who and whydunnit probably won’t happen until the end. With Narcos, Netflix takes on the rise and fall of Colombian kingpin Pablo Escobar and the Medellín drug cartel. Splicing together dramatized scenes and actual news footage, Brazilian filmmaker José Padilha (Elite Squad) combines Scarface and Goodfellas to track the life of Escobar. However, the real story here is not the characters as much as it is the Colombian drug trade and the spread of cocaine from South America into the United States in the 1980s. Escobar is used as a vehicle to illustrate the futility of the American drug war and the toll it took on both the criminals in Colombia and the authorities in the United States. As dramatic series go, Narcos is decent. As a historical examination of the drug trade, it is absolutely fascinating. When Marie Adler (Kaitlyn Dever) reports that she has been raped, she finds herself thrown into a deeply flawed system that will go on to tear her already traumatic life apart at the seams. Based on a true story, Unbelievable follows the aftermath of Adler's rape and the two female detectives who years later team up to uncover a series of disturbingly similar crimes. The unvarnished horror of Adler's ordeal makes this an understandably difficult watch at times but the excellent lead performances and focus on the voices of victims – so often missing in shows that portray violence against women – add up to a nuanced and unmissable exploration of the lasting impacts of sexual violence. It's time to meet You, your next guilty pleasure binge watch. A thrilling  drama, You is the talk of social media these days thanks to how much the show plays with our own addictions to Instagram and other apps. You stars Penn Badgley (Gossip Girl) as a bookstore manager named Joe, who falls in love with Beck (Elizabeth Lail), a grad student, and cyber-stalks the ever-loving heck out of her. Co-star Shay Mitchel is earning raves for her performance as Peach, Beck's rich-and-horrible bestie, who feels like a female riff on Gossip Girl's Chuck Bass.

If you love Black Mirror, then you should take a look at the series inspired it. Yes, Netflix is streaming The Twilight Zone, the original TV series with seriously thrilling stories, introduced by the stern Rod Serling. Must-see episodes include the shocking and tragic "Eye of The Beholder," as well as "Nightmare at 20,000 Feet" and "Time Enough at Last," which have been referenced in popular culture for decades. This docuseries focuses on a new topic each episode, ranging from athleisure to cults. Each episode runs only 16-25 minutes, giving you interesting information in a short period of time. Plus, there’s spinoffs like The Mind Explained as well as Sex Explained if you can’t get enough. With beautifully animated fight sequences and great character interplay, no game adaptation has the right to be this good. It helps that writer Warren Ellis has never played the games, in a lot of ways. We even named it one of the best anime series you can watch in 2020, and Castlevania season 3 has recently released – it's the darkest yet in terms of subject matter. Castlevania season 4 has been confirmed, so it's well worth catching up.Stranger Things is another brilliant homage to this era. Leaning heavily on Spielberg, John Carpenter and Stephen King, the story revolves around a small town, a group of friends, a missing person and a dodgy science lab. Writing anything else would give away the myriad twists in a show that is full of brilliant creepy fun.

3. Orange is the New Black

13 Reasons Why has an intriguing hook: A teenage girl named Hannah takes her own life and leaves behind a suicide note in the form of 13 tapes, each one directed at a particular individual at least partially responsible for the decision to kill herself. The tapes are then passed around to the 13 people, who have to deal with the guilt they feel for the role they played in her death, as well as keep their secrets hidden as the contents of the tape threaten to destroy relationships and cost the school millions in an ongoing lawsuit. The drama came under fire in its first season for its heavy subject material, and the reason it stirred so much controversy is that it is an honest and unflinching look at teen suicide. It’s a heavy series, especially for one featuring teen characters, but it is also emotionally raw, incredibly compelling, heartbreaking and admirable for at least what it’s trying to do. 13 Reason Why is a haunting and very personal series, and whether it succeeds — or backfires — in its aims will depend largely on the viewer. Netflix is home to so many excellent TV shows these days, which means it was tough for us to come up with a list that didn't run into the hundreds for our best Netflix TV shows guide. But we did it, and thousands of you have already had your say about the best Netflix series around

7. Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt

One of the most intense and ambitious shows of the last decade, Breaking Bad is a story about disease and drugs, family and friendship, profit and power, and much, much more. High school chemistry teacher Walter White (Bryan Cranston) needs money for his cancer treatment, and realizes he can put his scientific know-how to good use: making methamphetamine and starting an illicit empire. The award-winning performances from Cranston, Aaron Paul and Anna Gunn brought Vince Gilligan's top-notch writing to life. Without a doubt, Breaking Bad is not just one of the best Netflix shows but one of the top series of all time.Netflix’s sixth Marvel series falls victim to the same problems that have beset the previous Marvel series, namely it takes a strong character and stretches the story entirely too thin. Frank Castle (Jon Bernthal) is, save for Jessica Jones, arguably the most compelling character in the Netflix’s Marvel universe. He’s a villain in the second season of Daredevil, but a dark anti-hero here, a man who has zero regards for the lives of bad people, who he pummels and tortures to death. Castle is a grim character, but — thanks to the buddy partner dynamic with David Lieberman (Ebon Moss-Bachrach) — there are moments of levity and occasional doses of humor in the season. The problem with The Punisher is that it’s a six-episode season stretched into 13 episodes, and the filler episodes will test the patience of even the most engaged fan of The Punisher. In fact, this is a season where viewers can watch the first three episodes and the last two, and really truly and honestly not miss a thing. Netflix's first German original series is a smart and sophisticated marvel, starting as a mystery thriller and looping itself in constantly unexpected ways. It's part Stranger Things (but way moodier), part Twin Peaks (but way more German), and totally mind-bending - burrowing even further down its.. Netflix’s attempt to replicate the success of Big Bang Theory and Two and a Half Men with laugh track sitcom actually falls in between the two in terms of quality. The Ranch is not quite Big Bang, but it’s much better than Two and a Half Men thanks mostly to a deep sense of pathos that runs through the series, as well as strong performances from Debra Winger and Sam Elliott. About a washed-up football player (Ashton Kutcher) who returns to help his dad (Elliot) and brother (Danny Masterson) run a faltering ranch, the series surprisingly works as decent background noise, boosted by the likable, familiar presences of Elisha Cuthbert, Brett Harrison, and Megyn Price. It’s an easy series to dismiss, but it’s also an easy one to watch.

Netflix has something for everyone, but there's plenty of rubbish padding its catalogue of classic TV shows everyone has heard about. Our guide to the best TV on Netflix UK is updated weekly to help you avoid the mediocre ones and find the best things to watch. We try and pick out the less obvious gems, too, so we're confident you'll find a must-watch show you don't already know about. Netflix’s near-constant output of new programming can occasionally bury gems in the deluge, and the dark comedy Dead to Me is one of those hidden beauties. It’s near-impossible to discuss what makes Dead to Me so special without spoiling it but suffice to say it takes the concept of two grieving widows forming a friendship and twists it into something fresh and thrilling. Christina Applegate and Linda Cardellini are the leads, and carry the show even during its rare misses in tone, delivering a layered look at the bonds between women and how solidarity can triumph even in the darkest of times. It might be designed by the same company that brought you Hello Kitty, but the Netflix original series Aggretsuko uses its super cute animal wrapping to cover identifiable stories of working life frustration. Retsuko, a dedicated employee(and also a red panda) of a company that does not respect her at all, seeks different forms of escapism through the series, finding new interests and making new relationships in the hope they will be her path out of her current job. The only one that consistently keeps her going is her secret passion for death metal karaoke singing. The style, short episodes and frequent use of exaggerated humour makes this a very easy show to watch quickly, but there may be moments you will want to pause to reflect on your own experiences.

Peaky Blinders follows the Shelby crime family, led by patriarch Tommy (Cillian Murphy), in post-war Birmingham (UK). With double-crossings, family drama and political machinations aplenty, this is a proper 'prestige' show that's designed to mythologize British history in the way that Deadwood does for American history. Some of the jokes are based on the obvious contrast between Nick’s indifference to the horrors of the criminal world and Happy’s childish naivety, but that dynamic changes through the eight episodes of the series, before viewers can get tired of it. To figure out which Netflix original series are worth your time, we turned to the reviews aggregator Rotten Tomatoes to rank the shows by their composite critical reception (ties were broken by their Rotten Tomatoes audience scores). We excluded any show that did not have enough reviews to..

The Shelbys have come a long way since they debuted in the BBC series back in 2013. At the end of April the fifth series dropped onto Netflix for the first time. It now means the streaming service has every episode created. Season five sees Tommy Shelby's gang have considerable power and reach within the UK establishment. That doesn't mean life has got any easier for the Brummie mobsters. The power of their enemies has also grown and there's a very real risk the family's days are numbered. While it's been a huge hit with a Spanish-speaking audience for the longest time, Money Heist has now found a big audience in the English-speaking world, too. A new set of episodes just dropped on Netflix, meaning you've got 31 episodes to watch if you've never seen it before, divided over two separate overarching stories about the same set of characters. Netflix has a pretty amazing selection of original cooking shows, and this is just one highlight from a range of winners like Sugar Rush, Ugly Delicious and Chef's Table. FIlmmaker Jon Favreau and chef Roy Choi, who previously collaborated on food truck movie Chef, cook a whole host of meals across America, and explore different food cultures embedded in Los Angeles and Austin, Texas. Set in 1973, the Netflix animated series from Bill Burr is based on his childhood experiences in Massachusetts, and while it is not a particularly original family sitcom, it’s deceptively smart, hilariously profane, and pays great attention to the details of the 1970s. F is for Family will appeal to anyone who shares Bill Burr’s worldview — dark, unapologetically politically incorrect, and honest. Despite its vulgarity and crude animation, the series also boasts a few poignant turns that border on heartbreaking. For people of Burr’s age, F is for Family really captures what it was like to grow up in the early 1970s.

Why? In short, a lot happens this season, which breathes life back one of the best Netflix series after a mixed bag of a second season, more than earning its 90% on Rotten Tomatoes. One ratings service suggests that Fuller House may be the most popular series on television, but popularity doesn’t make something good. Full House was bad; Fuller House is worse, but nobody watched either series for high art. Fuller House mostly gets by on nostalgia, but its brand of family-friendly themes make it a serviceable series for the tween demographic while the ease with which it is watched makes it decent Saturday morning hangover television for wistful adults.

In theory, American Vandal sounds silly and sophomoric, and it is, but it’s also a genuinely brilliant, incredibly clever, smartly written satire of true-crime documentaries. It plays just like any other true crime docuseries — interviews, investigations, multiple suspects, and numerous conspiracy theories — only the crime here is not a murder. It’s a high school student who has been accused by the school board of spray painting dicks on 27 cars, a crime that threatens his ability to graduate. It’s a brilliant whodunnit that just happens to also be the best parody of 2017, and it even earned a Peabody Award earlier this year. With the show’s second season, the guys are investigating a new mystery: the case of the cafeteria’s contaminated lemonade. If you thought there were a lot of dick jokes in season one, just wait until you see how many sh*ttakes the’ve got planned.Claire Foy and Matt Smith (Doctor Who) garnered praise from critics and audiences alike for their portrayals of Queen Elizabeth II and Philip the Duke of Edinburgh in the first two seasons of The Crown. They play the royals from their 1947 wedding until the 1960s, when Olivia Colman and Tobias Menzies take oer the roles. Both pairs not only display a fantastic on-screen chemistry but they're fleshing out these historical figures with humanity and gravitas, earning them some of the sympathy they never gained in the court of public opinion. Two of the kid actors from the IT movies feature in this dark teen comedy, which comes from the director and executive producer of The End of the F***ing World. It's not a million miles away from that show in terms of tone. Sydney (Sophia Lillis) struggles to talk to her mom and feels like she's losing her best friend (who's also a secret crush) – and Syd reacts in the form of telekinetic outbursts, which start causing big trouble in her everyday life. She starts to bond with fellow outsider Stanley (Wyatt Oleff). Before Black Mirror, Charlie Brooker was best known for his snarky look at the news in Weekly Wipe and his fantastic, caustic look at meeja types in London’s Shoreditch, Nathan Barley. Now this anthology show has given him superstar status, for good reason. The four-part miniseries reenacts the excruciating case of the Central Park Five, a group of black and Latino teens from Harlem, who were wrongly convicted of the rape and attempted murder of a white woman in 1989. Filmmaker Ana DuVernay – with Oprah Winfrey and Robert de Niro among the executive producers – tells a true story of racial profiling, injustice and media misinformation over a 25-year timespan, from arrest to vindication.

In a time with too many reboots, you'd be excused from rolling your eyes at the mention of a dark, gritty Archie show. Yet, somehow, Riverdale defied expectations (or succeeded by leaping over a low bar?) and became a cult sensation during its first season. That section of episodes mixed high school drama with a noiry murder mystery (think Veronica Mars with a campy vibe), and then the second season added a cult, the Gargoyle King (we won't spoil that one for you) and a rash of violence tied to a tabletop roleplaying game. What else do you need to hit Play? Netflix Releases First Look at Ryan Murphy's 'Hollywood'. She's an ass-kicking superhero fighting against a man who is attempting to control her every move. It's a fierce, feminist tale with surprising twists and turns, and with a female friendship at its core that will make it not only badass, but relatable. More like this, please, Marvel This limited series helmed by Ava DuVernay focuses on the real-life story of the Exonerated Five. When a woman is brutally attacked in Central Park, five teenage boys from Harlem are falsely accused and tormented by the judicial system. The drama was a stalwart on the awards circuit, but more importantly, it brought attention to an oft-overlooked side of the story.Back in 2001, Polish production house Heritage Films attempted to adapt Andrzej Sapkowski's beloved Witcher novels into a TV series. The result was not very good. But now, armed with a budget and an Anglophone audience, Netflix has tried its hand at a Witcher series, with much better results. Henry Cavill stars as Geralt of Rivia: a roving monster hunter in a dark fantasy world. While Geralt wants nothing more than to ply his trade, he runs afoul of prejudiced townsfolk, ambitious wizards and even foreign royalty. Allied with the devious sorceress Yennefer (Anya Chalotra) and the young Princess Ciri (Freya Allan), Geralt must use his unique talents to protect those he (begrudgingly) loves. We're already tracking The Witcher season 2 news to see what's next for one of the best Netflix series.

All Netflix original TV shows, ranked from worst to best: lis

  1. For those separated from those they love, by quarantine or anything else, we recommend Netflix Party, a free service that lets you synchronously watch shows with friends who aren't in the same room.
  2. Nick Sax is a detective turned hitman who revels in his completely dysfunctional life. Then, after suffering a heart attack during a hit, he wakes up to find he is now accompanied by Happy, a small blue flying unicorn. He’s the imaginary friend of his kidnapped daughter Hailey, and believes that Nick is the hero that will come to her rescue.
  3. A splashy show directed in part by Damian Chazelle (Whiplash, La La Land) and written by Jack Thorne (Harry Potter and the Cursed Child), The Eddy is a slightly self-indulgent but ultimately rewarding drama about a struggling jazz club in contemporary Paris. If you love the music, you'll get more out of it, but this is a rewarding ensemble piece and a deep character drama if you give it the time.
  4. Competitive reality TV doesn't have to be a backstabbing mess. Sure the genre has spent decades running people through a mill of backstabbing (Survivor) and other ghoulish behavior (Temptation Island) — but The Great British Baking Show (which is called The Great British Bake Off when it originally airs in the U.K.) subverts that with a smile on its face. On this series, contestants have a surprising amount of camaraderie as they produce plentiful amounts of pastries and cakes. Just think twice before watching when you're hungry, GBBS might send you past dinner straight to dessert.
  5. Orange Is The New Black has wrapped its seven-season run, and it's a superb tale of life in a women's prison. It was one of the first big Netflix originals, along with House of Cards and Arrested Development season 4, and it ran for so long simply because it was very popular.

It could have been terrible, but thankfully Star Trek: Discovery is absolutely terrific. While at times it oscillates awkwardly between big-budget drama and cheap sci-fi thrills, for the most part this is a thoughtful, visually stunning expansion of Trekkian lore. Its obsession with winking and nodding to that lore will delight fans of the show, but at its core Discovery is a brilliant character drama, set against some clever and mind-bending sci-fi plot twists. It's now back for season two. There are four seasons of Terrace House on Netflix, and you owe it to yourself to watch at least one. Japan’s hugely popular reality TV show focuses love, friendship and ambitious career goals. However, unlike its trashy western counterparts (which can be admittedly very entertaining) Terrace House is a more wholesome, slower-paced type of entertainment. The Witcher does not try as hard as Thrones did to be 'prestige' TV, but that's actually pretty refreshing. Enjoy spending time with its likeable characters, get to understand its world, and look forward to The Witcher season 2, which is in the works for 2021. And if you're struggling to follow the show's unusual time-hopping structure, check out The Witcher timeline to figure it all out. Nick Kroll's wacky, geeky, puerile cartoon about puberty is one of the funniest shows on Netflix right now. It's all very sick and very wrong but the writing is sharp, the plots get more and more surreal and the voice cast is killer: Kroll himself, Fred Armisen, Maya Rudolph as a Hormone Monster, Jason Mantzoukas, even David Thewlis as The Shame Wizard in season two.

10. The Umbrella Academy

Baz Luhrmann’s (The Great Gatsby, Moulin Rouge) lavish, ambitious and expensive series explores the burgeoning hip-hop scene in the South Bronx in the 1970s. Messy and over the top, Lurhmann threatens to derail The Get Down with a campy bombastic style that overshadows substance. The movie-length pilot episode is too long and unfocused, but once the series gets going, it improves dramatically. After all the major characters are introduced and the storylines begin to congeal, The Get Down transforms into an eclectic, infectious and delightful 1970’s cultural remix. The storylines don’t always hold, but every episode delivers at least one show-stopping musical number that will stop viewers in their tracks.Knowing his terminal cancer diagnosis will financially destroy his family, high school chemistry teacher Walter White uses his scientific expertise and the help of a former student to create and sell crystal meth out of an RV. The whole series is available to stream, and yes, it's mandatory.A big budget prequel to Jim Henson's 1982 cult classic brings the rich world of Thra to the small screen. Like its predecessor, Age of Resistance is a breathtaking, sweeping fantasy that rivals Game of Thrones in terms of political intrigue. It follows the fortunes of three Gelflings and their struggles against the vulture-like Skeksis. The use of puppets sets it apart from pretty much anything else on Netflix, and there's a skilled cast of voice actors to accompany the puppeteers, including Taron Egerton, Simon Pegg and Mark Hamill. The 40 best things to watch on Netflix UK. The very finest films and TV shows the streaming service has to offer. This slick drama series tracks the efforts of two FBI agents to better understand the inner workings of serial killers' minds. It was a field of research not considered useful by law..

12. Dear White People

The notorious gangsters of Peaky Blinders make up one of the most powerful gangs of 1919 England. Its leader, Tommy Shelby, returns from war a hero and sets his sights higher than running the streets. After Netflix effectively killed companies like Blockbuster Video and expanded from a DVD-shipping juggernaut to a producer of original content, the game was forever changed. In a span of six months, Netflix dropped three original series, two of which won awards, and one which was forgotten

Currently, the best rated title in this category, with a rating of 4.75, is Yeh Meri Family In this coming-of-age comedy, protagonist Ryan has all the usual concerns of a young gay man, plus one more. He’s desperate to impress at his first unpaid internship, is self-conscious about meeting the men he speaks to on Grindr in real life – and he also has cerebral palsy. In the first 15-minute episode, O’Connell tries to gloss over this last fact, but given his new position is at an online magazine specialising in tell-all personal essays, you can imagine how successful that’s going to be. The series is based on a memoir by Ryan O’Connell, who also plays the lead, and is full of scenes that are by turns touching, awkward and frequently hilarious.

Exec produced by Steven Soderbergh and written, directed, and created by Scott Frank, who wrote Logan and Out of Sight, Godless, is equal parts a feminist Western and s a show about fathers and sons. The series is set in the 1880s in the small mining town of La Belle, where nearly all of the town’s men have died in a mining accident. Enter Roy Goode (Jack O’Connell), a charming gunslinger on the run from the mentor he double-crossed, Frank Griffin (Jeff Daniels), who — along with his crew out desperadoes — had already murdered everyone in another small town for harboring Goode. The series ultimately pits a town of mostly women against a brutal, merciless outlaw gang. Scoot McNairy, Thomas Brodie-Sangster and Sam Waterston play lawmen, but the standouts in Godless are Downton Abby‘s nearly unrecognizable shotgun wielding pioneer woman Michelle Dockery and Merritt Wever, a bisexual woman all out of f–ks to give. It’s a tremendously good series buoyed by beautiful cinematography, poetic language, a few great shoot-outs, and fine performances from the entire cast.At first glance, On My Block is just another teen drama about a group of funny, street smart kids trying to figure life out. But the show, which has been praised for its diverse cast and its ability to touch on real issues like immigration and the effects of gang violence, provides a refreshing viewpoint while concentrating on the lives of these four friends making it on the rough streets of an inner Los Angeles neighborhood. The show may deal in larger themes, but the fun in watching it comes when the focus falls back on the close-knit bond between four very different kids. We're eagerly awaiting new episodes So break out the waffles and sit down for the addictive tales of Dustin, Mike, Lucas, Will, Max and Eleven, who keep finding themselves in the center of supernatural predicaments. The Best Shows and Series on Netflix Right Now Digital Trend

If you like your cultural analysis with a dose of humor, Dear White People is the show for you. Starring Logan Browning at the conflicted Sam White, Dear White People navigates the tricky grounds of race relations in America in the post-Obama-but-yet-not-post-racism era. What follows are a large amount of serious violence and disturbing scenes, which will likely be off-putting to some viewers. That said, the story, adapted from a short comic series with the same name, is an amusingly twisted version of serious crime dramas, with a dark sense of humour that stands up even when you’ve wiped all the blood away. From the racial wealth gap, cryptocurrency and why diets rarely work through to K-Pop and the stock market, it's an insightful look at the problems, ideas and trends around today and the stuff that could shape tomorrow. You'll also find several separate spin-off miniseries on Netflix, including The Mind Explained, Sex Explained and Coronavirus Explained.

Netflix has issued a series of top 10 most popular lists for its content in various genres, breaking down the movies, series, nonfiction programs Fantasy and sci-fi drama series performed well for Netflix in 2019 in the scripted series arena. In nonfiction, viewers flocked to cooking competitions.. A serial killer targeting children is on the loose in 1890s New York. The local police department is playing down any connections between the deaths of the young boys, who all work in the sex industry. Based on Caleb Carr's novel, the series sees criminal psychologist Dr. Laszlo Kreizler team up with a New York Times illustrator called John Moore and Sara Howard, NYPD's first female employee who has aspirations of becoming a detective. The trio work under the radar with new police commissioner Theodore Roosevelt in an attempt to track down the deranged serial killer using psychological analysis – a largely unheard of technique at the time. The Defenders is the Avengers of the Marvel Netflix universe, a superhero team combining Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage and the Iron Fist against Elektra and The Stick (in the first season, at least). It is decidedly decent, not as good as Jessica Jones but not as bad as Iron Fist. It does a nice job of advancing the individual character arcs and keeping us invested in those characters (except for Iron Fist); the fight sequences are fantastic, and there are plenty of witty barbs. However, The Defenders suffers from the pacing issues that have plagued several Marvel Netfix series, and like all of them, there’s a lot of bloat in the middle. Sigourney Weaver, however, helps that bloat go down easy. It’s fun, but hardly the climactic season of television we were expecting when Netflix greenlit their Marvel franchise.

Crash Landing on You (TV Series 2019– ) - IMDb

A strange specimen of a sitcom, this Dan Harmon show set in a community college is the most meta TV comedy since Moonlighting. With a late-00s cast including Donald Glover, Alison Brie and Gillian Jacobs, plus scene-stealers like Ken Jeong, Community rummages around in pop culture references, clever callbacks and comments on its own existence but never forgets to pop up with a spot of character development or a heartfelt moment. All six seasons are on Netflix.Returning for a third season this week, Ozark was hit by comparisons to Breaking Bad early on, for its tale of a seemingly good guy who's dragged into deep criminal activities. But it's a very different beast, not least in its visually distinctive titular setting. Here, then, is our list of the best Netflix shows. Take a look at our list of the best Netflix movies, too, if you're in more of a cinema mood, or best Netflix documentaries if you're looking for factual entertainment. That being said, the show is dark. Tensions and issues with the US prison system brought to the forefront and while the comedy from the first few seasons remains throughout, it's slathered with a fair bit of drama. A throwback and love letter to the early 1980s movies of Steven Spielberg and John Carpenter, the Duffer Brothers Stranger Things feels both familiar and new. The first season is about a boy named Will (think E.T.‘s Elliot) who is captured by a The Thing-like creature and trapped in a Poltergeist-like world. His mother (Winona Ryder) recruits the local sheriff to investigate Will’s disappearance. Meanwhile, Will’s dorky, Goonies-like best friends take to their bikes to do some sleuthing of their own and eventually befriend an alien-like girl with telepathic powers (the E.T. of the series). The investigation into Will’s disappearance and the arrival of the telepathic girl all seem to lead back to a power plant operated by a character played by Matthew Modine. It’s great PG horror/sci-fi, like the blockbusters of the early ’80s, but for those who didn’t grow up in the era or aren’t intimately familiar with Amblin Entertainment’s catalog, the series may not hold as much appeal.

David Fincher is no stranger to Netflix, since he directed the first ever episode of House of Cards, but Mindhunter is Fincher going ... well, full Fincher. It's based on John Douglas' book of the same name and charts the life of an FBI profiler whose job it is to track serial killers. It's set in the '70s and later the early '80s, and sees its trifecta of lead characters interviewing famous serial killers in often tense encounters.Even superheroes can fall for the wrong man. Jessica Jones (Krysten Ritter) works as a private eye, but her full-time profession might as well be "alcoholic" after an abusive relationship with a manipulative supervillain known as the Purple Man (David Tennant). When a mysterious murder occurs in Hell's Kitchen, Jessica might be the only one who can get to the bottom of it. Its second season focused on unraveling the mystery of how Ms. Jones got to be so strong. Jessica Jones Season 3 forced Jessica and Trish to work together, and also served as the final chapter of the Netflix and Marvel relationship. The NBC cult comedy favorite from the co-creator of Rick and Morty has landed on Netflix. This sitcom about a community college study group starts as a more conventional show about its educational setting, but Community reaches the next level when it starts experimenting with pop culture parodies and high-concept episodes.Dogs are too good for us. There's proof enough in the first very first episode of Dogs, a tale of a service animal trained to detect seizures in a young girl, giving her back the freedom to be alone. While the episode about groomers in Japan has its fair share of adorable, Dogs is much more than a series of cute Instagram-worthy clips. Instead, these slow, quietly told stories reveal how devotion and love bring out the best in us humans, be it at the world's largest shelter in Costa Rica, fishing on an empty Italian lake, or the tense trip a husky takes from Syria to reunite with his owner, a refugee now living in Berlin. By the time the final episode about adoption rolls around, you'll want one of your own – but not feel quite worthy. As an episodic series, Jessica Jones occasionally falters. Jones is a private detective with certain special powers, but the series doesn’t put her P.I. talents to much use, instead focusing on one storyline surrounding the big bad, Kilgrave (David Tennant) for the entire 13 episodes. Tennant’s character, however, is the best reason to watch the series — he’s captivating yet repugnant, alluring yet vile — and the themes of rape and domestic abuse resonate loudly. Unfortunately, when Kilgrave is not onscreen, the series drifts. Krysten Ritter’s title character is too often dour and sarcastic, robbing the series of some much-needed levity. Still, it’s a captivating, thematically-rich series that covers ground no other superhero series would dare to explore, and while that doesn’t make it the most entertaining Marvel series, it is the bravest and most original.

There's method to his madness as he ends up being pretty good at it. Creator Vince Gilligan has created such a good group of characters, he is currently mining the same world again with Better Call Saul, which arguably reaches similar heights and is also available on Netflix, as mentioned. Netflix also released a movie sequel focused on Jesse in late 2019, El Camino.  Of the series listed, all but one are on Netflix: Hulu's The Handmaid's Tale. Of note, Netflix's Money Heist (aka La Casa de Papel) did exceptionally well for the streamer. The third season of the Spanish show was the most-watched Netflix series across non-English-language territories with 44 million.. Netflix has three subscription tiers at different price points. Plans start at $8.99 a month and go up to $15.99 a month. The Basic plan might not be the best plan if you're used to HD television. A student subscription to Spotify gives you access to Hulu's ad-supported plan and Showtime series

  1. Anyone who has seen the work of Joe Swanberg (Drinking Buddies, Happy Christmas) should know to expect from his TV series: A lot of well known, well-liked actors (Aya Cash, Dave Franco, Jake Johnson, Orlando Bloom, Hannibal Buress, Gugu Mbatha-Raw, etc.) improvising through a premise supplied by Swanberg. That kind of arrangement — usually shot quickly and cheaply — can provide mixed results, and Easy is no exception. It is at turns aimless, clever, boring, sexy and compelling, depending on the storyline. The first season is broken up into six very-loosely connected half-hour vignettes that all take place in Chicago and explore different facets of love. They’re basically short films, and some are good, and some are not so good, but through it all, it’s more worth watching than not.

Смотреть фильмы NETFLIX в HD онлайн This miniseries follows Esty, a 19-year-old woman who flees her ultra-orthodox upbringing in Williamsburg’s Hasidic Jewish community and ends up in Berlin, where she soon discovers quite how different life can be. But as she tries to find new friends and make a fresh start in the city, her husband Yanky and his shady cousin Moishe are in pursuit, determined to bring her back. The plot is dramatic and compelling, with flashbacks to Esty’s experiences around her arranged marriage providing an interesting insight into orthodox life and her struggles to play the role expected of her. The clash of cultures is sometimes played up to the point of silliness, but the strength of Shira Haas’ performance in the leading role will keep you glued to the screen. We just wish there were more than four episodes.

Before there was a Childish Gambino, or Zoya the Destroyer, Troy (Donald Glover) and Annie (Allison Brie) were two members of a study group at Greendale Community College — probably the zaniest campus on Earth. This group is founded by the slacker lawyer Jeff Winger (Joel McHale), who is disbarred from practicing law when it's discovered that his degree is fraudulent. Community, which lasted 6 seasons, is the product of Dan Harmon (Rick & Morty) and the show features the excellent banter that you'd expect from the controversial show-runner. The series thrives when mashing up insane antics and heartfelt character development, as The Greendale Six are equally broken individuals, who really need each other to survive this educational experience — as well as the annual paintball tournament. While the series begins in 1919, later seasons jump forward years at a time. Originally planned as a five-season show, Peaky Blinders season 6 is now in the works, likely for 2021.

The 50 Best TV Shows on Netflix Right Now - The New York Time

Ozark, from part of the team behind Ben Affleck’s The Accountant, is an example of what I call stress-watching television. A combination of Breaking Bad and Bloodline, Ozark sees a money launderer (Jason Bateman) and his wife (Laura Linney) move from Chicago to backwoods Missouri in an effort to clean $8 million in three months, lest their entire family be killed by a Mexican drug cartel. It’s not a fun show, and it’s barely entertaining, but like Bloodline, it’s the kind of series where the viewer is anxious to binge through it just to see if the antagonists will survive and how. It’s a seedy, well-written, well-acted series, and Bateman is terrific, but the entire point of Ozark is to put the viewer through the wringer: It’s tense, and stressful, and we don’t watch for resolution; we watch for relief. The best Netflix series and shows to binge-watch now. It's been seven years since Netflix announced itself as a home for high-quality series with 'House of Cards' and the big shows have come thick and fast since then Don't let the strangely goofy name put you off. Money Heist, or La Casa del Papel as it's known in Spanish-speaking countries, is a thrilling heist drama about a group of criminals brought together by an enigmatic figure called The Professor to rob the Royal Mint of Spain. With dense characterization, big twists and career-making performances, this is an unusual and clever heist show that'll grip you right away. Leslie Knope (Amy Poehler) is the boss you wish you had. Perpetually chipper and driven, even in the face of her supremely apathetic co-workers, Leslie's fondest wish in life is to keep the parks in suburban Pawnee, Indiana, running in ship shape. Parks and Recreation takes aim at government bureaucracy, but also a fun, earnest side about how local government can be a positive force. It took a season for Parks and Rec to get things right, but once it did, it became one of the best comedies of all time and certainly deserves a place on our list of best Netflix series.

BoJack Horseman is a hilarious and profound meditation on the nature of depression that just happens to be about an anthropomorphic horse. BoJack (Will Arnett) is a washed-up Hollywood TV star with plenty of money but no real goals or joy left in his life. As his oddball friends urge him on, he realizes that failure doesn't define him, but neither does triumph make him whole. The bittersweet final season of BoJack hit Netflix on Jan. 31 and we are going to miss new episodes of one of the best Netflix shows around.Critically acclaimed comedy The Good Place has ended its fourth and final season on NBC. It follows the afterlife of a recently deceased woman who is sent to heaven by mistake. The first three seasons are on Netflix now. A crush between a bookstore manager and writer quickly takes a dark turn when Joe (Penn Badgley) becomes obsessed with his new girlfriend and is determined to get close to her at the expense of everyone who gets in the way of that. What’s the only thing better than Paul Rudd? Two Paul Rudds. The actor gets cloned in this quirky comedy when his character, Miles, decides to go for a spa treatment that will help him be a better person. With one radiant new Miles, and one cranky, tired Miles, navigating life becomes harder as they have to learn to put up with each other. Aisling Bea plays his wife Kate, who isn’t aware that she has two husbands under the same roof and just wants back the man she married. Netflix is fairly good for diversity. Over half the programmes on the list were fronted by women, ethnic minorities The most divisive Netflix original series between critics and the general public, according to Rotten Tomatoes Critics gave it a 100 percent rating while it's audience score was just 65 percent

Avatar is good because each of its component elements is good. The show features gorgeous animation, spirited voice acting (including Mark Hamill and Jason Isaacs in major rules), sharp writing, an interesting story and an endearing cast of characters. But the show also feels like more than the sum of its parts, thanks to a lot of humor and heart. Adults will like the show, but tweens in its target demographic will absolutely adore it. Piper Chapman (Taylor Schilling) realizes she can't escape the mistakes of her past when she winds up in a minimum-security women's prison on a drug smuggling charge. Granted, it's not all bad, as she befriends the quirky inmates and reflects on the bizarre backstory that brought her there. Both funny and insightful, Orange is the New Black is one of the most popular Netflix original series. In this animated Netflix original, Will Arnett plays BoJack, a middle-aged, washed up sitcom star from the 90s, who happens to be a horse. The underrated comedy offers some of the most insightful commentary on mental health and substance abuse on television today. Yes, really.

You know how Arrested Development got a bit nihilistic, and didn't really care about endearing its characters to audiences? Schitt's Creek took a similar premise — rich family loses their fortune — but actually managed to create characters you'll feel for, and possibly root for. Created by the father and son team of Eugene and Dan Levy, who also star in the series, Schitt's Creek feels especially modern. What's amazing is how it almost never got an audience — until Netflix began streaming the show. The animated, coming-of-age comedy from Nick Kroll is full of familiar voices and even more familiar life problems. Centered on a group of pre-pubescent friends, Kroll voices a younger version of himself, a kid named Andrew who’s going through some embarrassing life changes like inconvenient erections and strange wet dreams and bat-mitzvah meltdowns. All these traumatizing and hilarious happenings are usually caused by Maurice, Andrew’s own Hormone Monster (also voiced by Kroll) who takes pleasure (literally) in abusing the poor kid. As painfully accurate as the show is, if you’re lucky enough to be removed from that angst-ridden era of life, you’ll probably appreciate the humor in all of it.

Orange is the New Black debuted in 2013 – and after seven seasons it is finally coming to a close. The series follows Piper Chapman (Taylor Schilling), a former small-time criminal turned PR executive, who is held accountable for her past. Chapman is upended from her privileged lifestyle and thrown into a minimum-security prison. She doesn't fit in. From her first day in prison to the last – and beyond – chaos follows her around. Expect drugs, death, sex and escape attempts.Neon Genesis Evangelion has something of a legendary status in anime circles, and deservedly so. The series, created by Hideaki Anno, follows Shinji, a 14-year-old who is called upon to commandeer a giant robot Evangelion in order to defend the city of Tokyo-3 from attacks by assorted monsters called Angels. Shinji reluctantly takes up the task, albeit less out of heroism than a desperate need to please his absent father, who happens to lead the Evangelion program. Despite the giant mecha battles, the series’ real triumph is in its tendency to the introspective; the plot focuses as much on the characters’ inner lives as it does on the battle for Tokyo-3, dealing with trauma, depression and the complexity of human relationships. The world of Pose, inspired by the legendary 80s documentary Paris is Burning, hits a sweet spot: it tackles profoundly difficult issues like discrimination, sexism and poverty, between joyous dance and drag competitions. The series has no weak link. Billy Porter as ballroom MC Pray Tell, and Dominique Jackson as Elektra are truly magnetic, and ground what could have become too much of a tear-jerker with the perfect sprinkling of world-weary cynicism. If you missed it on BBC2, the perfect time to binge-watch it on Netflix is right now. Best Netflix series UK: These are the best Netflix series in April, all for your bingeing pleasure. From Pandemic to Peep Show... GQ picks the best Netflix series in 2020, so you're not short of viewing inspiration this evening By WIRED Travellers is something of a hidden gem, albeit one that's increasingly not hidden as people realise the genius of this tight, entertaining Canadian sci-fi series. Run by Brad Wright, one of the co-creators of Stargate SG-1, the show follows a team of time travellers sent back to "the 21st" to prevent the post-apocalyptic future from which they came. The twist is how they travel. The Travellers have their consciousness transferred into the bodies of people shortly before their death, adopting their identities and living their lives between missions. It's an often thrilling, sometimes complicated watch that treads the line between serious sci-fi and accessible entertainment perfectly. The first few episodes back away from hitting on anything too heavy but come episodes five and six, you get a biting sense of why this show is so needed at this point in our history. Funny, clever and dripping in wit, Dear White People isn't so much an attack on American ideals as it is a series about exploring, explaining, defending and deliberating the issues facing people of color in the US.

If you missed The Good Place's amazing farewell on broadcast TV, know that season 4 is expected to arrive in August 2020.The OA has been wildly divisive among both critics and viewers alike, with about 50 percent strongly disliking it and the other 50 percent incredibly intrigued by the Brit Marling series. Marling stars as Praire Johnson, a blind, adopted woman who disappears for seven years and when she returns, she has scars on her back, she’s clearly been underground for a long period of time, and she can see. She calls herself The OA, and shares the details of her disappearance with only a few select people, her cult of followers. It’s an ambitious, imaginative series and though it is wildly uneven, it still remains watchable, full of moments both profound and eye rolling. The problem with The OA, however, is that it buys too readily into its own ethos and ultimately takes itself way more seriously than any viewer could. While it also manages to build a compelling mystery, it fails to resolve it in a satisfying manner. American Vandal The first Netflix series on this list is also one of the best, a However, the A&E series actually developed into an insightful and fascinating examination of the debilitating relationship between Freddie Highmore's Norman and Vera Farmiga's Norma, his just-as-twisted mother This four-part series adapts chef Samin Nosrat best-selling book into a joyous adventure breaking down the essential elements of great-tasting food. Not only does the beautifully-shot show encourage audiences to believe in their ability to cook (even if it's not there yet), but it educates audiences on the cultures that spawned these culinary marvels. By the end of the series, you'll not only be starving, but you'll be imbued with a bit of confidence to make the step from the audience to the chopping block. Salt Fat Acid Heat has some influence from Anthony Bourdain's work, but could be the start of the new best cooking show on Netflix.Jenji Kohan’s knack for social commentary mixed with humor is perfect for a prison story. Orange Is the New Black is as funny as Weeds in its early years, but Kohan has found a way to infuse poignancy to the overall vibe of her stories. The diverse, engaging ensemble cast is chock-full of fan favorites, and while Orange is the New Black traffics in stereotypes, it also challenges and complicates them. The acting is superb, the writing is brilliant, and the storylines are addictive. More importantly, it forces us to root for people who make poor decisions and appreciate the fact that we all make poor decisions because we’re human. The series will make viewers laugh and think, and every once in a while, it will break viewers’ hearts. It is a smart show, but most of all, it is good, in every sense of the word.

The second season of this adaptation of Richard Morgan's sci-fi favorite recasts Anthony Mackie as protagonist Takeshi Kovacs, and it's set 30 years after season 1. If you've not seen the first set of episodes, which featured Joel Kinnaman as the same character, now's a good time to catch up. This show looks fantastic in 4K – it's a real big-budget spectacular, assuming you're fine with the ultraviolence.  Looking for the best shows on Netflix? Look no further, because Rotten Tomatoes has put together a list of the best original Netflix series available to watch right now, ranked according to the Tomatometer. The list of top Netflix TV shows overall includes popular titles like Ozark, The Crown.. Following in the footsteps of Nick Kroll’s Big Mouth, this British teem comedy is committed to exploring all of the cringe-worthy, taboo topic associated with sex, just not in animated form. The series follows a mother-son duo navigating their way through those uncomfortable “talks.” Of course, the mother here happens to be a sex therapist named Dr. Jean Milburn (a terrific Gillian Anderson) and her son Otis (Asa Butterfield) is the kid enduring her overbearing tendencies at home while doling out sex advice of his own in an underground sex therapy ring amongst his friends. Sex is a comedy goldmine, and although the show loves to play up ’80s high-school tropes, there’s real nuance and thought that goes into how these teens are portrayed and their interactions with sex. Plus, Anderson’s comedic timing is spot-on. The new Netflix series is dark, lurid and not the least bit family friendly. Rather than making campy fluff, the show aims to tackle social issues The new original series starring Jonah Hill and Emma Stone is strange, surreal and oddly satisfying.
